Happy Hour: Purple Clover

Judy Rim of the St. Felix in Hollywood is a creative mixologist whose signature cocktails have a nostalgic twist. This Happy Hour pick is a throwback to Judy's high school days when she would head to the mall and grab an Orange Julius with her friends. Recently a vanilla vodka brand came to St. Felix and asked the bartenders to create a cocktail around the spirit and hers, based off the classic mall quaff, but with an adult twist, was picked as the winner. Lucky us, she has shared her recipe below. Vanilla vodka and orange zest create the familiar taste while a vigorous shaking over ice chills the drink to perfection.

RECIPE: Purple Clover

Yields 1 cocktail

  • 2 oz. vanilla vodka
  • .75 oz. simple syrup
  • .75 POM Wonderful Juice
  • 1.5 oz. Pineapple Juice

  1. Chill a martini glass in the freezer.
  2. Dip the martini glass into water and then into a shallow plate of granulated sugar to create a sugar rim.
  3. Combine all the ingredients in a shaker.
  4. Shake vigorously until frosted.
  5. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
  6. Slice some orange zest for garnish using a vegetable peeler, squeezing over the glass to release the essence.
