How to Peel Tomotoes


Step 1

Clean off dirt and debris from the tomatoes by rinsing them under cold running water.

Step 2

Fill a saucepan with three-quarters full of water. Place the saucepan on the stovetop under high heat, and then bring the water to a boil.

Step 3

Fill a bowl with ice. Use whole ice cubes instead of crushed ice for better results.

Step 4

Cut an “X” on the bottom of each tomato using a small, sharp knife. The cut needs to pierce the skin, but not cut deeply into the tomato.

Step 5

Place the tomato in the boiling water using a ladle or large slotted spoon to submerge it in the water.

Step 6

Leave the tomato in the water for 10 to 15 seconds. Do not leave the tomato in longer than 20 seconds or the tomato becomes mushy.

Step 7

Remove the tomatoes from the boiling water using a slotted spoon. Transfer it immediately in the bowl of ice, letting it cool down for 10 to 15 seconds.

Step 8

Use your fingers to grab the skin and peel it off the tomato, starting at the “X.”
