DIY Burp Cloths

Jersey baby burp cloths are really easy to make, because there are only six steps in the process to throw one together. You can literally sew one or two of these together in about 10 minutes if you have ever used a sewing machine before – even if it was in high school. They are seriously that easy and incredibly hard to mess up.

Made out of jersey and minky, these sweet little burp cloths are soft and durable so that they are gentle on your little one's skin but are also durable enough to spend a lot of time in your washing machine.

My family is getting bigger by the minute, so I am finding myself thinking more and more about things I can make to celebrate the additions to our family every year or so! For these, you need about 1/4 yard of jersey and 1/4 yard of minky.

Here are the step-by-step instructions:

This is my cute jersey and minky that I have picked out for this project.

Lay your jersey and minky down on your cutting mat and (using your rotary cutter) cut both pieces of material into a rectangle shape measuring approximately 17″ X 9″. These will make nice little burp cloths, but if you want them to be a little larger you can go ahead and add an inch or two on both sides.

Lay your jersey and minky right sides together.

Pin the two pieces of material all the way around so that they don't slip as you are sewing.

Sew a straight stitch all the way around the entire perimeter leaving a 4″ gap to turn the whole thing right side out.

To make sure that the corners lay flat, cut the corners off of each of the four corners as pictured above BEFORE you turn it right side out.

Iron each rectangle so that the corners and edges of your burp cloth are crisp, but don't use too high of a heat because the minky does not like to be ironed. If you have the minky that has little bumps in it, you could iron them right out of the minky so try not to do that or your burp cloth loses half of its cuteness!

Using a straight stitch or a decorative stitch, sew all the way around the burp cloth on the top side to give it strength AND to give your burp cloth a beautiful trim.

You're done! Can you believe how quick and easy this was to do? These cute jersey baby burp cloths only take about 10 minutes to make each if you are quick with a sewing machine. Again, something I really should have thought of when my own kids were little, but I guess my grandkids will benefit from my arrival to the "I should have thought of this when my kids were little" phase of life! If you haven't gotten there yet, you will.

Look how soft and pretty these are. They will be so nice for my little granddaughter to throw up all over, and they are super easy to get clean.

I am excited to share these adorable burp cloths with my cute little grand babies and with friends who are awaiting little bundles of joy to their lives, as well!

Happy burp cloth creating!
