Hooray for Female Viagra! Oh, Wait ...

I would like to start out by saying I am 100 percent behind anyone who wants to take a pill to make their sex life more awesome, saucy or fulfilling. For years we have heard about Viagra and how it's helping men have delightful intercourse, often with much younger supermodel types if you believe what the commercials tell you. I have often wondered why there isn't an option for women, but as of this week there is! Well, honestly it's not really a good option but I think we are supposed to be really stoked they threw us an old, half-ass, inedible bone.

Addyi is the new tiny pink pill women can take daily to increase their libido. Wait, every day? Don't men just take Viagra before they have sex? Why do we need to take it every day?

Good question. Addyi is actually an ineffective antidepressant. Unlike Viagra, Addyi targets the brain, not the genitals.Yep, that's right, it didn't really work as an antidepressant, but hey, if a couple people in the clinical trial mentioned that they didn't hate the idea of sex for about five minutes the previous Monday, we've got something good here!

The most common side effects for about 11 percent of users were dizziness and drowsiness, which sometimes lead to fainting. There are also strong warnings for it to not be combined with alcohol (There's just no winning).

Men have a little glitch, women are clearly broken.

Hmmm—doesn't Viagra just increase blood flow to the penis? Can't we just do that?

Nope, the FDA doesn't support it.

Over and over again, women's sex drives are linked to our mental condition, and I'm sick of it. Dr. Jennifer Berman, who co-conducted a 12-week study on women who used Viagra and reported overall sexual satisfaction, said it's important for women to remember that this pill can't overcome mental and emotional barriers to a satisfying sex life.

Does Viagra help men overcome emotional barriers? Nope, just helps 'em have some sex.

But I just wanna have some sex, too!

I know, too bad for you. You are a woman so you probably have some mental problems. If you didn't have mental problems, you'd totally be having awesome sex like men do without assistance. Wait …

The basic idea of Viagra is to treat the natural erectile "dysfunction" many men have as they get older. The thought behind Addyi is that we need to treat a woman's "disorder" since there is clearly more to it than just preferring sleep. Men have a little glitch, women are clearly broken.

I'd like to do a clinical trial where we take 100 women and give them a hotel room for three days with someone that looks like Boris Kodjoe and see if they still have their mental problems. I can pretty much guarantee that a bottle of champagne and a man with a killer smile that doesn't smell like old pizza would probably do the trick. I'll test it out first—you know, in the interest of safety.

You're welcome.

Will you be giving Addyi a shot? We want to hear from you!
