DIY Folk Art Christmas Tree Decor

This amazing "Folk Art" tree is just one of 24 inspiring trees decorated in "The New Christmas Tree" book by Carrie Brown. Brown created this version using vintage and antique dolls, Guatemalan fabric around the base of the tree and colorful garlands plus ornaments inspired by old-world artisan handicrafts for a colorful and fresh take on the traditional tree.

DIY: Tin Sunburst Ornaments

  • Ballpoint pen
  • One 12-by-36-inch roll of 36-gauge aluminum foil
  • Metal glue

  1. Print all three circle templates and cut them out. Use a ballpoint pen to trace the outer and inner circles onto aluminum foil. Press firmly on the inner circles to emboss the foil. Cut the outer circle shapes with titanium scissors.
  2. Cut fringe from the edge to the embossed inner circles on all three foil circles.
  3. Stack the fringed sunbursts on top of one another, largest to smallest, and glue them together. Color the center of the smallest sunburst with a fat-tip marker, if desired. To hang, punch a small hole in the top of the sunburst with a nail or nail punch and a hammer, and insert an S-hook.
