I love the purposeful celebrations of family and gratitude during the holidays. Treasuring your family and being grateful for all of life's blessings are important to keep in mind all year long, of course, but this time of year is even more special.
How do you make the holidays special for your family?
With two little boys in our home, we have a lot of enthusiasm for holidays and traditions. We've been getting in the holiday spirit by listening to carols during breakfast before school and learning the words to the classics. "Jingle Bells" is a current favorite!
What do the holidays mean to you?
Family, gratitude, traditions, music! I just love the holiday season!
So you have any tips you would love to share with other moms about the holidays?
My tip to moms about the holidays: Keep it simple. I've found time after time that the more elaborate my plans are, the less my children participate in the way that I expected and hoped. Rather, I find the true spirit of the holidays is strongest when we do simple things together, such as baking Christmas cookies, reading books about the holidays, or collecting items to donate to charity.
Have you started any new traditions with your kids?
We celebrate Christmas in our home, and our new tradition is to buy an ornament everywhere we travel so that we have a memory from our vacations. As we put up our tree every year, it's so fun to see the ornaments and talk about the different experiences we've had together as a family. Plus, we have a very colorful, playful, eclectic Christmas tree!
