week, I'm taking responsibility for my recent lack of activity—or, if I'm being
honest, my total slothdom. Between
running my business full-time, taking care of my toddler, getting used to a
temporary home in a brand-new place and showing up daily as my husband's life
partner, I have let my exercise routine fall through the cracks.
One of my New Year's resolutions was to get
moving, and to commit to being active and breaking a sweat a few times a week. I feel better physically and mentally when
I'm getting weekly activity, and my recent "break" from it has me feeling like
crap. Consider this my recommitment to
the exercise revolution!

Motivate Yourself to
Exercise by Feeling Cute!: For
me, wearing what I feel is a cute outfit to the gym or in my exercise class
goes a long way. Call it silly, but when
you are feeling pretty and not dumpy, it really helps to elevate your mood and
inspire you to work out at your best. To
do this, I invested in a couple of coordinated and stylish workout outfits from Under Armour that
make me feel like a million bucks. The
fabric is stretchy and made to suck you in in all the right places—just
putting them on makes me feel like I worked out! I also designed my own tank top with a super cool
new iPhone app called Levatee. #Momlife. Pretty much sums it up.
TIP: Put your workout clothes on in the morning of
the day you are planning to exercise to remind yourself of your goal as the day
goes on. If you are already dressed for
exercise, you are more likely to follow through!
Make a Refreshing &
Delicious Workout Beverage: We
all know by now that staying hydrated is just as important as exercise
itself. Drinking enough water (8-10
eight-ounce glasses of water a day) helps flush out toxins, improves your skin and fortifies your immune system. But
sometimes drinking a lot of water just feels so blah. Motivate yourself by
creating your own "spa water"! I love to
experiment with different combos like strawberry and mint, or even blackberries
and cucumber slices. Add your combo of
choice to a big pitcher of water, cover with plastic wrap and let chill for at
least half an hour before serving. Toss
the mixture after 24 hours, but you should have finished it by then! Hydrate,
Multitask With an All-Natural Hair Mask: This
is one of my favorite little tricks ever. Feeling "whatever" about going to the gym? Well, what if you knew you could
work on your fitness and get super silky hair at the same time? YOU CAN. Next time you're resisting your workout, slap on a coconut oil hair mask
before heading out to exercise. Put your
hair in a ponytail, take 1 tablespoon extra virgin coconut oil and rub it in to
your ponytail, focusing on the ends. Make sure to stop about an inch from your scalp so your scalp doesn't
get too oily. Now twist the ponytail and
secure it into a bun on the top of your head with an additional hair elastic or
clip. As you sweat and your body temp
rises, the coconut oil will permeate deeply in to the hair shaft to moisturize,
heal and condition your hair. When you
hop in the shower post-workout, shampoo and condition as normal. Voilà!
