While You Were Sleeping ...

We all talk a lot these days about balancing career and family. But think about it: this dialogue is basically about work and the kids. What about mom?

At mom.me we realize that as much as you adore your kids, you're a woman as well as a mom. So, while we're pretty obsessed with the whole quest for work-life balance, we decided to step back and find out if—and how—moms are taking time for themselves. The results of our first ever mom.me Me Time Survey were pretty eye-opening.

The good news? More moms are carving out time for themselves on a regular basis than you might have expected (87.8 percent). But we dug a little deeper and found that most women are taking that time late at night—presumably when partners and kids are asleep.

Now, this won't come as a shock to most moms—we all burn the midnight oil catching up on Facebook, the latest season of Breaking Bad (or that fabulous fashion gallery on mom.me!). But it made us wonder: is this a good thing? After all, at 11pm, you can't exactly meet up with your girlfriends, go for a walk, or indulge in a salon mani-pedi. Not to mention the fact that you could be catching up on some much-needed sleep.

Isn't this something we should be talking about—as moms, and as women—as part of the whole work-life balance challenge? We think so. Check out what other moms are saying in our community about how and when they find time for themselves. And while you're here, enter our Me Time sweepstakes for a chance to win a girls' night out, a shopping spree, or other cool prizes.
