Maggie Louise Callahan (Maggie Louise Confections) chocolates are almost too pretty to eat. This Austin-based mom started her chocolate business in 2013 and has reinvented the classic sampler with her unique style and gorgeous eye for detail. Make sure you check out her amazing Instagram feed—it's one of our foodie favorites.
What inspired you to start your business?
I fell in love with creating artistic, delicious chocolates while attending Le Cordon Bleu in 2013. I wanted to continue my work but no one was doing this in the marketplace at a level that I aspired to. So, I started Maggie Louise Confections so that I could spend every day doing what I loved.
What do you most love about it?
Building and growing Maggie Louise Confections allows me to marry both my creative side and my analytical strengths. This brings me endless joy. Also, our chocolates and gifts that make people happy—I love that aspect of the business.
What's the hardest thing about running your own business and being a mom?
Time. To truly build a business and take advantage of opportunities, you have to throw notions of balance out the window. You will never be the most fit, the most social, the most well-traveled and the most well-rested when you are running your own business. You will work constantly and you must embrace it knowing that you cannot be all things to all people, including yourself and your family. Pursuing my passion, doing work I love and setting a great example for my daughter makes up for the lack of balance in my life.
