Besides being carried away with sweet prints and details on this baby and toddler swimwear line, you'll be inspired by the passionate mom behind Olivia + Ocean.
What inspired you to start your business?
My daughter. She not only changed my perspective of the world, but also of myself. Of course, I think she is perfect. One day, I realized my mom probably felt the same way about me, and somewhere along the way I started doubting myself. These doubts were self-created and holding me back from taking the leap and starting my own business—something I had wanted to do for a long time. This realization helped me not be so hard on myself and let go of those doubts and go for it.
What do you most love about it?
My favorite thing about my job is the creative outlet it allows. The colors and prints literally brighten my day! Also, meeting other smart and talented moms along the way is the best. The female support is amazing! By the way, this is not my only job. I work a 9-to-5 at a prominent tech company in business development. I enjoy that job, too. But my ultimate dream is to one day make Olivia + Ocean my full-time gig. I am juggling a lot. Although, that is just my way. The purpose of starting my own business is to one day build a work-life balance that allows me to spend the maximum amount of time with my child and future children.
What's the hardest thing about running your own business and being a mom?
Late nights and lack of sleep. I get most of my work done at night after she goes to bed. Then, I am up by 7 a.m. every day with her.
What does your daughter think about the work you do?
Currently, she is pretty oblivious. She is only 16 months old. I hope when she is old enough to get it, she sees the value in workinghard towards your goals and how cool it is when women support one another.
Name three other mompreneurs you admire.
This is my favorite question! There are so many! But I'm excited to get to give a shout out to three. Elle Rowley of Solly Baby Wrap is the first that comes to mind. I have admired her, her company and her product for a long time. Funny story, we actually use the same manufacturer based in Los Angeles. The second would be Alison Faulkner of The Alison Show. She puts it all out there, literally. Girl can shake her butt and I respect that! Love how open she is and unapologetically herself. Third would be Joy Cho. I'm so impressed by her brand and how she has built partnerships with large retailers like Target. That's not easy to do when there are so many talented moms out there creating beautiful things. Also, she makes the cutest babies.
