From 2008 to 2009 a group of six teenagers, most of them coming from well-to-do California families, burglarized celebrity homes and walked away with close to $3 million in cash and belongings. Known as the Bling Ring, the group (which now has a feature film directed by Sofia Coppola out about the crime spree) would target celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Bilson and Orlando Bloom whom supposed ringleader Rachel Lee thought were "fashionable." The teens found their addresses via Google Maps and other websites, selecting the intended victims based on which ones were scheduled to go out of town for a celebrity appearance or movie shoot. Most of the time the teens got in via an unlocked door. The teens were eventually caught and sentenced to jail time in 2010, the longest being two years.
