For an alcoholic summer beverage, try the Beach Street Cooler. Mix 1 1/2 oz. of brandy, 1/2 curacao and 1/2 oz. of lemon juice over ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake it and strain it into a chilled Collins glass. Fill the rest of the glass with any dark-colored soda and enjoy. Garnish the drinks with cherries.
Party Slushy Punch
To make a nonalcoholic slushy party punch, you will need a small box of gelatin, 2 1/2 cups of sugar, 2 cups of boiling water, 3/4 cup of frozen lemonade, 1 large can of pineapple juice, 1 tsp. almond flavoring and a two-liter bottle of ginger ale. Combine the sugar and gelatin, and mix in the 2 cups of boiling water until dissolved. Add all the other ingredients and pour them into a gallon container. Add enough water to fill the gallon container, stir the mixture and freeze over night. Allow about six hours for it to thaw and put the mixture into a punch bowl. Pour ginger ale over the mixture and use a spoon to create a slushy texture.
Summer Fruit Punch
Another summer drink to try is summer fruit punch. Dice one peach, one nectarine, one apricot and one plum. Divide the fruit evenly into four ice-filled glasses. Mix 2 cups of apricot juice, 2 cups of sparking wine and 1 cup of seltzer. Pour the mixture over the fruit and ice-filled glasses. To make this drink nonalcoholic, use sparkling cider instead of wine.
For a frozen summer drink, try a pina colada. Mix 1 1/2 oz. light rum, 2 oz. of pineapple juice, 1 oz. cream of coconut and a 1/2 banana in a blender. Add 1/2 cup of ice and blend. Pour the mixture into a Collins glass, and garnish with a pineapple slice and a cherry. Omit the light rum to make this nonalcoholic.
Another alcoholic party punch is summer slush. Start by boiling four tea bags with 2 cups of water, set aside and let cool. Boil 7 cups of water with 2 cups of sugar and let cool. Add one can of frozen orange juice and lemonade to the sugar mixture. Add the water from the tea mixture and squeeze excess water from tea bags into the sugar mixture. Put 1 cup of vodka into the sugar mixture and stir it together. Place in freezer over night. Put the mixture out about six hours before the party starts so the mix will start to thaw. Serve the drink in a highball glass and top with about 2 oz. of lemon-lime soda. This mixture should make about 40 to 50 drinks. Garnish each drink with a cocktail umbrella and a cherry.
