David Menasche, an English teacher at Coral Reef Senior High School in Miami, was dying of brain cancer when he took to Facebook to try and find out if his life was worth it, his final wish. He asked, “Did I make a difference?” In two days, students in 50 cities had replied. Menasche began traveling around the country to reconnect with his former kids as friends, crashing on their couches and learning about what they remembered and what impact he may have had—everything from sharing his “intelligence” and “enthusiasm” to fostering a love of writing and journalism. "It seems like it was not a wasted life," he said, according to USA Today. "I wasn't so sure—I honestly wasn't."
Menasche's memoir of the experience, The Priority List, will be published in January 2014.
