Laney Brown is nothing if not a fighter. The 8-year-old from West Reading, Pa. has been bravely battling leukemia for seven long months now, and recently, doctors discovered that her blood is 70% cancer cells.
But despite only having weeks left to live, little Laney is soldiering on. Her dying wish? To have carolers sing for her; and to meet Taylor Swift.
According to WFMZ, those two wishes came true this passed week, when she not only FaceTimed with Swift herself (on her birthday, no less), but had a crowd of well-wishers swing by her house to serenade her, too. And this wasn't just a small group of carolers, either. It was a gathering of epic proportions, swelling from a small few to an unbelievable ten thousand.
Though the tiny third-grader was too weak to come to the door, she listened to the soothing melodies from her bed, where she even posted a photo to her Team Laney Facebook page. The photo showed Laney with two thumbs up. Its caption read: "I can hear you now!!! Love you!"
The Saturday celebration honoring Laney also involved her dance team, who came by to perform for her. And of course, there was Santa, who made a surprise visit to Laney's bedside.
But outside, the carolers sang through tears and heavy emotion, to hopefully lift the spirits of a little girl who had come to touch their hearts.
Later on Laney's Facebook page, caroler Marianne Franken wrote: "As much as I want that miracle to be saving the life of an 8-year-old girl ... the miracle was an 8-year-old girl teaching an entire community, town, city, and the whole country the true meaning of Christmas."
