Couple Names Son 'Krimson Tyde.' (Spoiler Alert: It Isn't Going Over Well)

Couple names baby Krimson Tyde

This week, in cringeworthy baby names ... an Alabama couple has named their kid "Krimson Tyde." Yes, Krimson Tyde. And let's just say, not everyone's a fan.

Now, in their defense, parents Summer and Steve Steele were apparently trying to pay homage to their favorite football team–the Alabama Crimson Tides (which we kind of can't believe is the actual name of an actual sports team).

"The reason we named him Krimson is that we are big Alabama fans, and it is a very unique name and we loved it," explained Summer.

And in theory, all of that makes sense. But as anyone who's ever, oh, gone through middle school (or watched Clueless) could tell you, those particular words, when put together, symbolize a very different thing than what those parents intended.

Naturally, the Internet has been freaking out about the name ever since the birth announcement first hit Twitter. Here are some choice tweets so far:

As you might imagine, mom Summer isn't too pleased about all the backlash. "I'm shocked," she told Alabama Media Group. "I didn't think people would make a very big deal about it."

On the bright side, the family does have at least one fan of the name: dad Shane Broadhurst, who also named his 2-year-old Crimson Tide—and his 5-month-old Alleigh Bama. Go figure.

What do you think of the name? Kind of wacky or no big deal?
