Kids have some serious imaginations, which is why it's (understandably!) hard to keep up with them, sometimes! For Refe Tuma and his wife, Susan, they were reaching for ideas to keep their kids entertained ... and they arrived at Dinovember.
The couple was looking for ways to keep their kids excited about each day (despite being exhausted), and after their four kids went to bed one night in November, as a joke, Susan placed a group of toy dinosaurs at the sink with toothbrushes in their hands. When the kids woke up, they were so excited upon realizing that the toys had come to life overnight. The parents continued the tradition until the end of the month (in 2012).
When November of 2013 rolled around, after much anticipation, the dinosaurs came back to life. Naturally, the kids were so excited! They formalized things by creating a Facebook page devoted to their beloved Dinovember. Tuma also posted about the dinosaurs on Medium, and the idea took off. The post has been viewed over 3.5 million times, and the Facebook page has amassed a following of nearly 270,000.
And, as it goes, you truly never know who is reading your work online ... the Medium post caught the eye of an editor at Little, Brown. John Parsley told Mashable that he knew he wanted to make the idea into a book the moment he read it. And that's just what they are doing! The husband and wife will pen an adult book, What the Dinosaurs Did Last Night, and a children's book to follow. We can't wait to see it!
