In its first interracial Super Bowl ad, Cheerios is bringing back the family that prompted a slew of racially charged and hateful comments last year when they appeared in an ad for the cereal brand.
The new commercial, titled Gracie, shows a little girl, whose black father is telling her that she's going to have a little brother, as her white mother looks on—all while using Cheerios to illustrate the growing number of family members.
“Our new Cheerios ad celebrates one of those special moments with a family that America fell in love with. The brand is at its best when it reveals moving insights about what connects us to each other, especially as families, and often through the lens of a child," Camille Gibson, vice president of marketing for General Mills, said in a statement.
Cheerios' first commercial featuring the family, called Just Checking, received so many bigoted comments that the cereal's parent company General Mills had to close comments altogether.
Gracie is the first Super Bowl commercial for Cheerios, reports TheWrap.
