Each year, more than 250,000 children enter the foster care system. Today, there are more than 104,000 children in the system, according to AdoptUsKids.org. Some of those kids live in homes, some live in group facilities, and some age out of the system before they've been adopted, ultimately having to fend for themselves. While these statistics are discouraging, there is a silver lining: Many families are made complete because of these children.
Some couples can't conceive, some want to do their part by giving a child a forever home—the reasons for adopting are endless.
While there are many incredible adoption stories, we were taken aback by the response from this one: Gina had been in foster care for 751 days—that's two years and three weeks. After the adoption went through for Gina, her adoptive parents wanted to share their incredible day with friends and family, so they took photos of her announcing the family's completion!
Gina's mom went on to comment:
Since Day 1, I know that God had Gina picked out for us. I was born to be her mother and she was always meant to be my daughter. I know that we lost pregnancy after pregnancy because Gina was waiting on me. We honestly cannot imagine our life without her [...] We hope to always care for foster children. We hope to start building a bigger house next year to house a few more.
Do you have chills like we do?
The photo of Gina was shared on the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption's Facebook page, and due to the high volume and interest in adoptions following the post, the site crashed! As of today, the Facebook post has been viewed by more than 6 million people, shared more than 26,000 times and has been liked by 816,876 people—oh, and it's also garnered nearly 10,000 comments! We like the sound of those statistics much more.
