Summer Infant, Inc. Recalls 800,000 Video Monitor Batteries

Summer Infant is recalling the rechargeable batteries in 800,000 baby monitors because of potential burn hazards. According to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission, the battery in certain handheld video monitors can overheat and rupture, posing a burn risk to the consumer.

This recall applies to over a half dozen Summer Infant video models including the Baby Touch, Safe Light, and Slim & Secure. The affected batteries are approximately 1 ½" tall by 2 ¼" wide and are ¼" thick, black, and are marked with TCL on the lower right corner.

So far, there have been 22 reports of overheated batteries, including reports of smoke and minor property damage.

The hand-held color video monitors were sold with matching cameras and A/C adaptors at Babies R Us online and other retailers from February 2010 to 2012 for $150 to $350.

If yours was one of the affected monitors, contact Summer Infant for a replacement battery at 800-426-8627 or online at http://www.summerinfant.com
