Massachusetts Mom Delivers 14.5 Pound Baby

The average newborn is said to weigh around 7.5 pounds.

Baby Carisa Ruscak, however, is no average baby—she really tipped the scales this week, weighing in at 14.5 pounds.

Mom, Caroline Ruscak, gave birth via C-section on Tuesday at Massachusetts General Hospital. While her mom calls her an Earth Baby (she was born on Earth Day), Carisa is being recognized for another reason: She's the biggest baby delivered at MGH in more than 10 years.

We can only imagine the back pain Ruscak was enduring during her final trimester. The second-time mom told WCVB-TV, "I heard the weight, and I was like, 'Oh my God.' It validated me, because I was in a lot of pain when I was pregnant, so to hear the size, it made sense."

Ruscak and her new beautiful baby are both happy and healthy. Mom, proud dad Bryan and their first daughter, Claudia—who weighed in at 10.5 pounds, by the way—are celebrating a safe and smooth birth.
