Boy With Cancer Has Best Birthday Ever, When 2,000 Birthday Cards Arrive in the Mail

Anyone will tell you that Bennett Olsen is one brave little boy. The 10-year-old was diagnosed with leukemia just two years ago, but has never lost his fighting spirit throughout it all. But it helps to have a best buddy by your side; one person who will be with you every step of the way, ensuring that you always hang on to that spot of hope. For Bennett, that person is his best friend, Max Surprenant. And this year, Max has taken his role as best friend more seriously than ever before.
To celebrate Bennett's 10th birthday (and lift his spirits even higher), Max made it his mission to get him 1000 handmade birthday cards. To do so, he started an organization with his mom called Catching Joy, which is all about teaching kids the importance and joy of giving to others. With some help from his mom and fellow organizers, Max soon got the word out about his plan for Bennett's birthday with major success. Before he knew it, he was receiving handmade birthday cards for Bennett left and right.
Since then, cards have poured in from as far away as France and Japan, which has pretty much amazed the boys. But even more amazing is that Max's seemingly lofty goal of getting 1,000 birthday cards for Bennett has been way surpassed. To date, he's taken in 2,000 cards for his best friend.
But the very best part was, of course, the day of the reveal. WCVB news cameras were there as Bennett was surprised with a giant bag of birthday cards ... and let's just say it was more than touching.
