LEGO to Start Selling Female Scientist Sets

What do a female paleontologist, astronomer and chemist all have in common? They're all about to get the magic LEGO treatment! We couldn't be more excited.

The collection, available starting in August, will be called the "Research Institute" and comes with the figures and related accessories, such as a chemistry lab, dinosaur skeleton and telescope.

One woman, in particular, couldn't be prouder.

Last fall, Dr. Ellen Kooijman submitted an idea for this Female Minifigure Set to the LEGO Ideas platform — a place where anyone can share an idea for a new LEGO set. Proposals that receive more than 10,000 votes get further researched by the company as potential real-life projects, and clearly, this one panned out.

In her proposal, Dr. Kooijman writes that these figures could “show that girls can become anything they want, including a paleontologist or an astronomer.”
