WestJet Does It Again with Emotional Father's Day Surprise
byKaitlin StanfordJun 11, 2014
Last Christmas, the Canadian airline WestJet famously surprised many of its passengers by first asking them what they'd want from Santa before take-off, and then leaving their gifts from their wish list at baggage claim by the time their plane landed. Well, it looks like they're back at work making miracles happen, just in time for Father's Day.
The Grimard family recently had to make the difficult but necessary decision to live 300 miles apart in order for their son, Joel, to get the treatment he desperately needs for his congenital heart condition. So while Joel has been closely cared for at the Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada in Edmonton, Alberta, with his mom, his dad Marc and brother Mattieu have stayed behind in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
The separation has not been easy, as Joel's mom explains in the clip.
But amazingly, this year WestJet teamed up with Ronald McDonald House to let the family know they are not alone. Together — and with the help of one good-hearted WestJet employee who stepped in to do Marc's job for a week — they managed to pull off an extra-special Father's Day surprise.
We won't ruin the rest for you, though. Just do yourself a favor and grab an entire box of tissues before pressing play.
