There are many things teens today will never quite get about the '90s. They'll never know the agonizing torture – and yet total thrill – of waiting for your dial-up Internet to connect. They'll never have to call Mom "collect" from the mall (and then dodge the fee by speed-talking "Mom, pick me up at 7!" when the operator asks for your name). And let's face it, they'll probably never understand parachute pants. (We kind of don't either.)
But as for our universal love for "Saved by the Bell"? It seems even the teens of today are not immune to its powers.
In the Fine Brothers' latest episode of their "Teens React" series, they plop a group of teens – including "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams – in front of a SBTB episode, and watch them take it all in.
From the get-go, they have a lot to say.
For one, the boys are in agreement: Kelly Kapowski is still majorly crush-worthy.
But Slater and Zack? Hmmm ... the girls aren't so convinced. "They're good-looking guys," says 18-year-old Alix. "But they're not hot."
Um, excuse us, Alix, but we beg to differ. Clearly these guys were hunks then and – if you really want evidence – are hunks now.
The teens go on to discuss the insanely catchy theme song (who wouldn't love that?), the oddball fashions of the day (which they admit are kind of coming back around now, strange as it seems), and the overly happy-go-lucky characters at the center of it all. But one thing's for sure: they are pretty much mortified by the hokey plot lines and corny dialogue, just as they are surprised by the rampant stereotypes that abound.
