Hollywood darling Lupita Nyong'o stopped by "Sesame Street" earlier this week, in her first appearance ever on the popular kids' show. And though her two-minute bit with Elmo may have been brief, it was nothing short of amazing. No, she wasn't there to chat about how the hands on a clock tell us the time, or why it's so important to learn the letters of the alphabet. Instead, Lupita was there to chat about the beauty of something we all are born with, no matter who we are. Something that protects us, and keeps us warm; something that allows us to feel things and touch things. Sometimes, it even gets ticklish!
Can you guess what it is? That's right – it's our skin.
"Skin comes in lots of beautiful shades and colors," Lupita tells a curious Elmo, before informing him that under all that soft, red fur, he too sports a layer of skin.
This, of course, blows Elmo's mind, prompting him to notice that Miss Lupita's skin is different from his. It's a beautiful brown color.
"That's the thing I love most about skin, Elmo," she says. "Skin comes in lots of beautiful shades and colors."
"You know what, Miss Lupita?," the furry little guy asks after taking note of his own red skin. "Elmo loves the skin he's in."
