Chris Picco's life changed tragically in an instant when his wife, 24 weeks pregnant, died unexpectedly in her sleep. Medical workers rushed Ashley Picco to Loma Linda University Hospital in Northern California, where they delivered via C-section the couple's son, Lennon James Picco.
NICU workers kept the micro-preemie alive, though his lack of brain activity and movement left Lennon with a grim prognosis.
New dad Chris stayed by the boy's side as much as possible. Remembering that Ashley remarked on Lennon's movements whenever she was around music, Chris asked permission to bring his guitar into the NICU. For several hours on the day that Lennon later died in his father's arms, Chris played and sang to his son.
He posted a video of himself playing the John Lennon and Paul McCartney classic, "Blackbird," including links to a memorial fund where people can donated to help with medical bills and costs associated with his son's short life and his wife's death.
