'The Little Prince' Trailer Is Pure Magic

"The Little Prince" trailer debuts, looks beautiful

The world has been transfixed by the story of "The Little Prince" for decades, and at long last, we can finally see the enchanting story brought to life on-screen in a way that does it justice. The French trailer for the new film has just been released, and it might actually be the most beautiful thing we've ever seen.

Directed by Mark Osborne, who previously helmed the kid flick "Kung Fu Panda," "The Little Prince" blends stop-animation and CGI together to capture that whimsical look we so love from Antoine de Saint-Exupery's original story. And for those who haven't yet picked up the tale, Saint-Exupery's book centers around the story of a pilot who crash-lands in a desert. There, he meets a young prince who is also far from home — he's fallen to Earth from an asteroid. Together, they discuss this strange world called "Earth," discuss the meaning of life and other deep, philosophical things that take the story far beyond just a children's tale. One of its more touching lines: "One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes."

To this day, "The Little Prince" remains one of France's most popular titles, and it's easy to see why.

Watch the trailer below, made even more magical by Lily Allen's sweeter-than-sweet cover of Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know."

Can't wait to see more? The film is slated for an October 2015 release date in France, but there's no word yet on when the English-American version will debut. What we do know is that it'll feature an all-star cast, reportedly including Rachel McAdams, James Franco, Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro, Paul Giamatti and Ricky Gervais.

In the meantime, here's a rough translation of some of that dialogue you heard above, in case you're as rusty as we are from those high school French lessons. (Thanks to the good people of Reddit for digging this up.)

Old Man: "Oh, oh! I'm here! Up here! Good evening!"

Girl: "Once upon a time, [there was] a little prince who needed a friend."

Old Man: "I've flown almost everywhere in the world, until something miraculous happened."

Little Prince: "Please, draw me a sheep."

Old Man: "I've always wanted to find someone to share my story with, but I think this world has become too adult. It's only the beginning of the story!"
