Joy Woodhouse did not raise her boys to be like that. Political, sure. She admits to being political herself. But fighting at Thanksgiving? The mother of C-SPAN pundit brothers Dallas and Brad Woodhouse expects a little better.
And she let them know it. On their live call-in show.
Brad, a Democrat, and Dallas, a Republican, took a call from Joy in North Carolina. No sooner had she started talking than Dallas drops his head and says, "Oh, God, it's Mom."
“I don’t know many families that are fighting at Thanksgiving. I’m hoping you’ll have some of this out of your system when you come here for Christmas," she said. "I would really like a peaceful Christmas.”
Joy said she's glad the two spent Thanksgiving at their respective in-laws' this year, so she didn't have to listen to all that bickering. (Some things in parenting never change, huh?)
The show's host, Steve Scully, kept Joy on the line, assuring the audience the men's mother's call had not been planned. Scully asked if the partisan brotherhood is a problem for the family. “They’re both very passionate about what they believe in, and I love that about them, but I hope they just kinda get this out of their system today on your program.”
Joy also said she's a registered Democrat and favors expanding Medicare and Medicaid, to which Brad responded with a concurring raised fist. (Brad is the one with glasses and, clearly, the liberal side of this sibling rivalry.) Joy explained that she has a grandchild with autism and better coverage for his needs would benefit her family.
