Disney's 'DuckTales' Returns in 2017

Scrooge McDuck is coming back — complete with his three feisty nephews and ubiquitous gold coins.

Yes, Disney's TV series "DuckTales," which aired from 1987–90, will be getting a refresher and premiere on Disney XD in 2017, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Parents who came of age in the '80s and early '90s will surely remember Uncle Scrooge's worldwide adventures with nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, alongside other characters including Webby, Doofus and Launchpad McQuack.

While the new series will most likely echo the first incarnation, one key difference will be the inclusion of Donald Duck, who only made guest appearances in the earlier version, notes the Times.

The plot lines for the series were inspired by the Duck stories of the comic book artist Carl Barks, according to the news outlet.

The nostalgia element is perhaps a factor in bringing back the series. After all, '80s animated TV favorites such as "The Smurfs," "Transformers" and "My Little Pony" and have seen a resurgence in recent years.
