Snatched from her sleeping mother's arms at just three days old, Zephany Nurse of Cape Town, South Africa, has been reunited with her family after 17 years.
Nurse was napping with her mother in a Cape Town hospital in 1987 when the incident occurred. Years later during her final year of high school, she met a new student with a striking resemblance, which led to the discovery that she was the girl's long-lost sister, as Daily Mail reports.
DNA tests confirmed that Nurse was indeed the child of Celeste and Morne Nurse, who lived only a short distance away. They had celebrated her birthday every year in her absence with their three other children.
A 50-year-old woman has been charged with taking Nurse from her mother, according to Daily Mail.
"The suspect is being charged with kidnapping, fraud and contravening sections of the Children's Act, in that she fraudulently pretended that she was the biological mother of a child," Western Cape provincial spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut said.
The suspect lived with her husband and had no other children.
