Men Urged to #LeanInTogether

A new campaign urging men to get involved in women's fight for equality at home and in the workplace is gaining traction. Twitter has exploded with the hashtag #LeanInTogether, with a slew of NBA and WNBA players adding their voices to the cause.

As the LeanInTogether.org website explains, its message is simple:

  • Children with involved fathers are happier, healthier and more successful.
  • Couples that share responsibilities have stronger marriages.
  • Diverse teams and companies produce better results.
  • Men, show the world you’re in for equality. Women, celebrate men leaning in.

The movement is inspired by the book "Lean In," written by Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook. It focuses on gender equality and encouraging women to pursue their ambitions. But one question Sandberg said she's often fielded since the book's publication in 2013 was how men can contribute to the effort.

"In order to get equality, we need men to lean in as much as women," Sandberg said.

Other famous faces supporting the cause include Warren Buffet, Arianna Huffington, Hugh Jackman, Richard Branson Serena Williams and Dwayne Johnson.
