Who hasn't seen the famous meme of "Success Kid" floating around the interwebs? It's been used for people to celebrate everything from getting the baby to sleep through the night to getting an extra scoop of ice cream for free. The actual "Success Kid," Sammy Griner, is now 8 and his parents are hoping his online fame will help save his dad's life.
Griner's dad, Justin, recently learned that he would need a kidney transplant and launched a GoFundMe account in hopes of raising $75,000 to cover all of the medical expenses and to find a living kidney donor. In just over a week, the family had raised over $90,000, mostly thanks to Sammy's Internet fame. Sammy's mom Laney told ABC that while she wasn't wild about her then 11-month-old son's picture going viral on the Web, "By now, it's just out there. What am I going to do? At least it's positive ... Without that happening, how much could I get this recognition about my husband's kidney transplant?"
Clearly in this case, you give to the Internet, and the Internet gives back to you.
