Friday, May 1, marks the start of the sixth annual Crafting Community weekend in Palm Springs, California—or "family camp" as it has affectionally been coined. Approximately 150 families from all over will converge at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs to spend a whimsical weekend crafting, learning and basically unleashing their creative beasts to their hearts' content in a design-rich environment. With classes on topics ranging from underwater photography to leather-working, and activities ranging from hip-hop classes to morning yoga, it's basically Coachella for families—but way cuter and less crazy.
Throw in an ice cream social hosted by artisinal ice cream makers Salt & Straw and story time under the stars, and we're sold! There will also be workshops led by leaders in the design-sphere like Christine Schmidt of Yellow Owl Workshop and Justina Blakeney of The Jungalow, among others.
The event was started by two moms, Karen Kimmel and Stacey Bernstein, who believe that "Crafting Community encourages and cultivates the creative spirit through art, curated design, fitness and plain old fun."
