Minister Mom Reacts to Daughter's Coming Out

Coming out to your parents could be easy. It also could be hard—incredibly hard. Then there are those kids whose parents knew all along that their child is gay or lesbian.

That's how it was for Bri Johnson, whose minister mother was not at all surprised about her daughter's sexual orientation. Johnson shared her coming out story with Tumblr , and it went viral.

The video's caption reads: "My mom says this was how it was when I came out. I love her. She's a minister, everyone. Religion shouldn't involve hate."

Since the video was posted, Johnson didn't expect the video to spread so quickly. The original video, posted by the 22-year-old for Mother's Day, would soon be shared over 70,000 times in just a few days.

"We initially assumed this was going to stay on my Tumblr page," she told BuzzFeed. "I only had, like, 200 followers. I don't usually even tag my posts."

According to Johnson, her mother was both very supportive and not-at-all surprised when she came out to her about a year ago.

"I said, 'Hey, Mom, I have to tell you something.' To which she responded, 'Is it something I've known for 22 years?' And I asked, 'Are you serious?' She was like, 'Are YOU serious? It's not a surprise, Bri.'"

Hopefully all parents can be as cool at Bri Johnson's mom when their son or daughter face the same circumstances.
