"Tangled," the modern Rapunzel makeover from Disney that dominated movie screens in 2010, will be hitting the small screen, arriving on the Disney Channel in 2017.
The animated film, which grossed nearly $600 million at the global box office, tells the story of Rapunzel, who was snatched away from her royal parents and forced to live in a tower that she could only escape from after she dropped down her yards and yards of her golden hair.
In the modern retelling, Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) is a sassy young woman who isn't exactly waiting on her prince. In fact, she knows her way around a heavy frying pan when Flynn (Zachary Levi) finds his way into her tower room. (There's also a clever twist about those trademark blond locks, but we won't spoil it here.)
The animated series will take place after the events of film but before those of the TV-based sequel "Tangled Ever After," which aired on the Disney Channel in 2012.
In the series, Rapunzel will be sticking a pin in her wedding and royal life to learn more about herself, her family and her kingdom, according to Buzzfeed.
Moore and Levi are also onboard for the new incarnation, with Moore tweeting out her excitement this morning.
