Mom Leaves Infant Alone in Car at the Gym

A Connecticut mom is the latest to be added to the list of women leaving their children alone in hot cars so they can run errands.

Hiroko Kurihara, 46, of Stamford, left her 4-month old daughter locked in her Toyota SUV in a parking garage so that she could go to the gym, according to the New York Daily News. Her 30-minute workout may impact more than her fitness, as she has now been charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor and leaving an unattended child in her car.

Norwalk police also confirmed that this was not Kurihara's first time leaving her child alone. Earlier the same day, she left her daughter in the same parking garage, with the windows rolled up for an hour so that she could work out.

A passerby heard a baby crying in the parking garage, found the 4-month-old, and alerted the fire department, who arrived as Kurihara completed her workout and returned to her car.

After receiving a medical evaluation, the infant was placed in the care of her father.
