Wheelchair-Bound Dad Learns to Walk Again for His Daughter

Every bride wants her wedding to be especially memorable, but one bride in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, certainly had a perfect day. Heather Duquette didn't think that her dad would be able to walk her down the aisle after his diagnosis of leukemia. He was confined to a wheelchair and unable to walk—or so she thought.

Ralph Duquette was determined to perform his duty as a father. He practiced walking with the help of physical therapists all summer before the big day, and he kept it a secret. He wanted it to be a surprise on Heather's wedding day, and it certainly was.

"My dad was helped up out of the wheelchair and walked over to me, and I just started crying," Heather Duquette told WCSH Portland. "I was scared and nervous and sad and happy, all at the same time."
