Canada's First Giant Pandas Are Born

Canada is celebrating a new birth. Two, in fact! Two giant panda cubs were recently born at the Toronto Zoo—the first to be born in Canada.

Er Shun gave birth to the first cub on Tuesday at 3:31 a.m. and the second cub at 3:44 a.m. The Toronto Zoo recorded the birth and posted the video, which is slightly graphic.

The cubs each weigh less than a pound, and they are both being closely monitored by zoo staff. Their gender is not yet known, and it will be several months before that can be determined.

The cubs will be under the care of zoo staff at the maternity house for several months before they are visible to the public.
