Whether you love it or hate it, Facebook's "On This Day" feature is here to stay. But now you don't have to see it if you don't want to. While for the most part, users love taking a walk down memory lane with the reminders that pop up daily, sometimes there's a memory or two you'd rather soon forget.
A Facebook spokesperson tells ABC News, "As a result [of On This Day], everyone has various kinds of memories that can be surfaced — good, bad and everything in between. ... We've added these filters to give them more control over the memories they see."
So if you don't want the unpleasant surprise of seeing an ex, a former friend or a loved one who passed away pop up on your feed, here's what you do:
* First, you have to be on your desktop computer. This won't work from your phone.
* On the lefthand sidebar, find Apps and select it.
*On the righthand side, select Preferences (located near the banner image).
* A box should pop up allowing you to filter out date ranges and people you don't want to see appear on your 'On This Day' reminder.
And there you have it. Hopefully this helps some people avoid reminders of unwanted memories.
