A simple search on Google will produce hundreds of tips and tricks on how to get your baby to sleep through the night, but what if you've done everything you can think of and nothing works? For some, the answer is just a phone call away.
Baby nurses are educated, trained and highly skilled specialists that (for the right amount of money) will assist and guide parents in dealing with infant struggles—including sleep.
They will also, apparently, bust their asses, working 22-hour shifts without a single day off until the baby is 3–4 weeks old. That is, for those willing to spend up to $800 a day.
Seth Norman Greenberg, vice president and marketing director of Pavillion Agency, a domestic staffing agency in New York City that pairs "ultra wealthy" families with nannies, private chefs, personal assistants, housekeepers, butlers and more, said those with money are spending up to $800 a day to hire baby nurses to help them care for their newborns and teach the babies to sleep through the night. For twins and triplets, the rate can be even higher.
"Clients can be in any industry, from business titans, financial, manufacturing, tech—and then some people that are just retired," he said.
He also said that his clients have begun to see the value of hiring a baby nurse and are beginning to pay them to stick around a lot longer.
"Most of my baby nurse cases in the past, up until a few years ago, would last between one and three months. Now they're lasting between six and nine months," he told Business Insider. "And the salaries have gone up."
Greenberg said that most of the baby nurses working for the company start out as either nannies, registered nurses or licensed practical nurses (LPNs)—working three to four weeks straight before taking a few days off. After that, they generally take a day off every two weeks.
They are also trained to deal with colic, gas and excessive crying, according the Pavillion Agency, and some are certified lactation consultants—trained in umbilical and circumcision care.
