Victoria Beckham Trades in Her Stilettos

The day has come: Posh Spice is finally hanging up her stilettos. Known for her incredibly chic fashion sense and impossibly high heels, Victoria Beckham has hardly been photographed in anything but sky-high pumps for nearly a decade. But the 41-year-old mom of four recently said in an interview that she "just can't do heels anymore."

The globetrotting fashion designer says flats are now a big part of her life—when she's working and traveling, heels just won't do any longer. Of course, for red carpets, she'll still break them out. She just won't wear them with the same frequency as she used to. The 5'6" former Spice Girl was famously once quoted as saying, "I can't concentrate in flats!"

However, her signature skyscraper heels have kept women everywhere wondering for years, "How does she even walk in those things?"

It may not surprise fans that more than a decade of wearing six-inch stilettos finally caught up with Beckham, as she reportedly underwent corrective surgery for painful bunions in 2013. (Sarah Jessica Parker, who turns 50 this month, also swore off regularly wearing stilettos in 2013, saying they "mangled" her feet.) Whatever the case, we're glad she's decided sensible shoes can be fashionable after years of saying how much she despises flats.

She told the Telegraph, "I think people saw the real me when I came out [at the end of her show in New York] in a pair of men's trousers, a roll-neck and trainers."

She's been photographed several times in recent weeks wearing sneakers and other flats while in New York and London. While it may be the end of an era, podiatrists have cautioned women of the potential damage high heels can do to your feet for years. A 2014 Stanford University study published in the Journal of Orthopaedic Research found that wearing heels 3.5 inches tall and higher can strain knee joints and also lead to osteoarthritis, among other problems.

Beckham, who turns 42 in April, also told the Telegraph that her work clothes have to be "simple and comfortable." (This coming from the woman who used to wear six-inch stilettos and very fitted clothing while working from a treadmill desk.) My, how times have changed! Now if only she would take one for the team and make yoga pants fashionable!
