New parents of preemies already have so much to worry about. When newborns are constantly hooked up to monitors and moms still haven't fully recovered from birth, the last thing parents want to worry about is whether or not a diaper will fit.
According to the March of Dimes, one in 10 babies are born before term (37 weeks). While it's a small class of babies, there's usually a lot of work involved just to change a diaper. Nurses have to fold and cut newborn diapers to fit, and the wires and tubes on the baby's body can be really intimidating for parents to perform the typically routine act. On average, it takes two nurses with their four hands, and five to ten minutes to change a preemie's diaper.
Now, parents and NICU staff have one less thing to worry about because good ol' Huggies heard about the need and came to the rescue.
After interviewing nurses and neonatal therapists and 10,000 hours of research, the diaper brand launched Little Snuggler Nano Preemie diapers, specifically designed for babies weighing less than two pounds. Not only do they fit premature infants, but they are meant to help with their development.
The soft liner and gentle leg gathers in the preemie diapers keep babies' delicate skin clean and healthy, and the narrow, absorbent pad provides a flexible fit so babies can be comfortably positioned in a fetal tuck. Bonus: They even fit when there are all those wires involved!
"We're passionate about helping all babies thrive, especially the smallest and most fragile. This Huggies diaper reflects our ongoing commitment to deliver innovative solutions for the NICU," said Eleonora Daireaux, vice president of Huggies North America, in a press release.
We're so glad there's an option now for even the tiniest of babies. That's one small diaper for preemies, one giant leap for NICUs nationwide.
