Don’t mess with Texas moms. That, at least, is the lesson learned
from Dorothy Baker of Baytown, Texas, who reportedly defended her kids from a
knife-wielding assailant…then, for good measure, ran her van over him.
Baker had just shopped at CVS and was returning to her
minivan with her 5 and 2 year old sons. Only Baker had left the car unlocked,
and Ismael Martiniez, 54, had slipped inside and was waiting for them. Martiniez allegedly “popped up out of the backseat
and said that if I didn’t want my kids to get hurt, that I would do exactly
what he said,” Baker told ABC
Martinez brandished a
knife on Baker while she was driving and ordered that she stop at an ATM and
get him some money. She refused. Martinez then reportedly became violent,
slashing her chest. Baker was still undeterred. She even managed to dial 911
during their fight with the hopes that the dispatcher would hear what was going
on and get help. “I took my fist and I hit him in
the face, and I told him to get out of my car,” Baker said.
Eventually Martinez gave up
and jumped out of the van. But Baker wasn’t done with him yet. To make sure he
never did this to any other family, she ran her car into him. “I didn’t mean to run him over,” she said. “I was just trying to
stop him so he didn’t hurt anybody else.”
Martiniez was hospitalized for
serious injuries and will likely face felony charges. Meanwhile Baker is being
celebrated for her bravery.
“You don’t come after people with
kids,” Baker said. “I told him he messed with the wrong witch.”
