Jessica Simpson, 32, and her fiancé, Eric Johnson, welcomed their new son Ace Knute Johnson into the world yesterday, People magazine is reporting. It’s the second child for the couple.
Though Simpson had originally insisted that she’d keep mum on the sex of her baby-to-be, that wasn’t the case. She eventually spilled the beans in March when she made a guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. In April, at her baby shower, she had said to People that she was completely psyched to be adding a boy to her brood (Ace’s big sister, Maxwell Drew, just turned 1 on May 1). “I’m excited to have a son,” she gushed at the party, which had a Tom Sawyer theme. “I didn’t grow up with a brother and I think the unknown is really exciting. I can’t wait to have that connection with our little man.”
Ace’s cool middle name, Knute, is actually a nod to a portion of his ethnic heritage: It’s in honor of Johnson’s grandfather, who was Swedish, Simpson’s rep explained in a conversation about it with People magazine.
Simpson, who’s 32 years old and currently appears as a mentor on the show Fashion Star, had confirmed rumors of her pregnancy last year while she was away on a Christmas vacation. And of course, she’d made the announcement with a bit of her own stylish flourish: She’d Tweeted an adorable photograph of little Maxwell sitting in the sand above letters that spelled out “BIG SIS.”
