Forget a long string of guest hosts to audition for that empty spot on ABC daytime talk show The View, actress-comedian Jenny McCarthy has it all locked up.
A new spot on the show opened up last week, when longtime co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck departed for Fox News. Joy Behar is set to leave next month, according to Entertainment Weekly, and founding co-host Barbara Walters has said that she will end her hosting duties on the show next year.
“Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor,” Walters said in a statement. “She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for The View.”
McCarthy is no stranger to the ladies of The View. The mom to 11-year-old son Evan has appeared on the show 17 times, including eight times as a guest co-host, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“I’m beyond thrilled … I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off,” McCarthy said in a statement.
