When the mother of a 2-year-old cancer patient at Children's Hospital Los Angeles posted a sign on her daughter's hospital window, she had no idea what kind of response she would get.
Mom Lauren Hammersley told Yahoo! Shine that she was hoping to break up the boredom when she wrote "Send Pizza Rm 4112" in medical tape on her daughter Hazel's window, but then the pizzas really started coming. A lot of them.
“We had been here since July 4th and are always trying to think of ways to pass the time for a 2-year-old, since you begin to get a little stir crazy,” Lauren told Yahoo! Shine. “We didn’t think we’d actually get any pizzas!”
And, at first, they didn't see a single pie.
But after a user on social-news site Reddit posted a photo of the request, people responded in a big way. More than 20 pizzas were delivered to the little girl, who has been diagnosed with stage three neuroblastoma.
In fact, there were so many pizzas that the hospital had to politely decline any more.
The note read: “If you’re on Reddit and have seen the adorable photo below, please help Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and patient mom, Lauren Hammersley, spread the word: You’ve made a little girl very happy but NO MORE PIZZA IS NEEDED.”
Lauren also blogs about her daughter at Our Little Hazelnut and hopes to raise awareness about the disease.
