Moms have been there before. You go out to a restaurant with the fam, and your baby needs an entree himself. Whether you're tucked away in a booth or in the middle of the restaurant, breastfeeding your child can be a little fraught. Will people just let you feed your kid in peace, or will there be looks? You know the kind.
One nursing mom, Jackie Johnson-Smith, was out with her family at an Iowa pizza place when her little guy needed to eat. What surprised her, though, was the receipt that came after the family had finished.
A waitress had written on the receipt, "I bought one of your pizzas. Please thank your wife for breastfeeding!!"
Johnson-Smith was so shocked that she posted the receipt on Facebook with this message:
"I have breastfed three children... I have breastfed them in countless of places both pleasant and unpleasant, discreetly and out in the open. I have gotten many looks and stares, but tonight erases any negativity I have ever received. I ate at Fongs for the first time tonight. Having a fussy baby I nursed him for awhile in the booth and eventually left the table early as to not disrupt the restaurant. The waitress gave this receipt to my husband. I was speechless and emotional. Although I don't need a pat on the back for feeding my child, it sure felt amazing. It is amazing how we women can make each other feel when we empower each other."
The waitress, Bodi Kinney, told an Iowa news station, "We need to come together and support each other when it comes to nursing our children."
The note—and the sentiment—have gained lots of fans. The receipt, according to the Huffington Post, has been shared on Facebook more than 2,000 times.
