When Jimmy Fallon and his wife Nancy Juvonen surprised the world with the sudden birth of their daughter last month, much was made about the baby's unique name. True, Winnie Rose is no Pilot Inspektor, but, even so, it sparked plenty of chatter and speculation over just where the moniker came from, anyway.

One of the most popular rumors out there was that "Winnie" was inspired by "Winnie Cooper," everyone's favorite Girl Next Door from The Wonder Years. But alas, it seems the Late Night host and his wife weren't paying homage to the '80s dramedy after all. (Though he did admit that she's basically the "coolest girl ever," so that wouldn't have been a bad assumption.) When he spoke with the TODAY show yesterday, Fallon pretty much squashed that theory, admitting that "Winnie" is actually short for Winnipesaukee, the New Hampshire lake where he and his wife have vacationed for many years now. They even became engaged there.

While we certainly didn't see that one coming, the sweet story behind the name makes it even better.

“We were talking about different names," Fallon told the TODAY show Tuesday. "You overthink names—you don’t want a name that’s been done, but then you don’t want something so weird people are like, ‘What?!’ Winnipesaukee’s a little long.”

One more meaning behind the moniker? “She’s a ‘win’ for us,” Fallon joked. (Awww!)

Little Winnie arrived on July 23 via surrogate, after what Fallon revealed was a long struggle with infertility.

As he told Savannah Guthrie on TODAY:

“We tried for a long time — five years. I know people have tried much longer but if anyone out there is trying and losing hope, just hang in there. Try every avenue, try anything you can do. You’ll get there. You’ll end up with a family. It is the most worth it thing. I’m just so happy right now, I’m freaking out.”

And if that's not enough to officially call Fallon the cutest new dad ever, the newbie pops added: “I just love her. She’s a little angel. She’s so cute and so fun. Little girls especially unlock something in your heart.”
