The Elf on the Shelf Has a Jewish Competitor

Have you always been envious of parents who use The Elf on the Shelf to keep kids in line all December? Do your religious beliefs require that you light candles for eight nights instead of lighting up a giant tree and getting a visit from Santa? If you feel you've missed a big part of the holidays by not having a toy hanging out observing your every move and threatening your children, you're in luck, chosen people.

An incredibly clever former Hasbro toys employee has been hard at work creating The Mensch on the Bench, for all the Jewish households that want their children to behave under the watchful eye of Moshe The Mensch.

Moshe is meant to add some “Funukka to Hanukkah," according to creator Neal Hoffman, and he has launched Moshe thanks in part to donations on his Kickstarter. And yes, Hoffman does have a son, Jacob, who inspired this watchful holiday presence. A storybook is included, so your kids can also learn all about Moshe and start a new Hanukkah tradition.

Will you get a Mensch on the Bench?
