Kraft Will Remove Artificial Dyes from Some Products

Kraft has decided to remove artificial dyes Yellow Nos. 5 and 6 from some of its popular Macaroni & Cheese products.

The classic elbows won't see any changes, but varieties including SpongeBob SquarePants, Halloween and the winter shapes will get its coloring from ingredients such as paprika and other spices, according to the Associated Press.

While the decision comes after a much-publicized Change.org petition from bloggers, the company insists that the move wasn't inspired by that.

"Triona Schmelter, Kraft Food Group Inc.'s vice president of marketing for meals, added to the Associated Press that the company is making the changes because to improve the nutritional profiles of the products," CBS News reports.

Groups such as the Center for Science in the Public Interest have been petitioning the Food and Drug Administration to ban dyes such as Yellow Nos. 5 and 6, according to CBS News, citing behavior problems in children.
